Trip Includes:
This tour begins at 9:00 AM at our office in Ancud or your hotel. Short historical-natural history talk before heading into the rolling countryside of the island. You and your bilingual guide will decide what interests you most about the day's possibilities, which can include a mixture of birding in the Quilo wetlands, beach walks, visits to the 18th century Spanish Fort Ahui or the Lighthouse of Faro Corona.
Of course, we will visit the Natural Monument of the Puñihuil penguin colony and visit the small islands in the bay by boat. On and around the islands many species of birds nest: Magallanic and Humbolt penguins, Blackish oystercatchers, Kelp geese, Flightless steamer ducks and four species of cormorants. This varied day's adventure will offer you a keen understanding of why Chiloé Island is so cherished by biologists and naturalists - its richness in flora and fauna is apparent everywhere. The trip usually finishes around 17:00.
